Fightin' Engineers Achieve Third Straight Shutout Victory

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Rose-Hulman continues to remain perfect in the HCAC as the Fightin' Engineers took down the Franklin Grizzlies by a score of 3-0.
 
Iliana Hernandez nearly put Rose-Hulman on the board early into the match, attempting an eighth-minute shot that was saved by Grace Williams. Lena Darini added a shot of her own in the top left corner two minutes later, which was also deflected away.
 
In the 14th minute, Hernandez recorded a shot in the top left side of the goal, which was deflected away. Lauren Marquardt recovered the deflection, where she fired her shot into the back of the net to give Rose-Hulman the 1-0 lead.
 
Darini would add her second shot on goal in the 19th minute. Franklin responded five minutes later by attempting a shot down the middle, which Brooke Spurlock hauled in for her first save of the match.
 
Hernandez attempted her third shot on goal two minutes later, and Camille Clark recorded a 30th-minute shot in her first game back from injury, which was also saved.
 
With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Alex Adams recorded a pass to Marquardt, where Marquardt would score her second goal of the match to secure a 2-0 halftime lead for the Fightin' Engineers.
 
Darini continued to thrive on the offensive end in the second half, where she attempted her third shot on goal down the middle which would be hauled in by Williams.
 
Marquardt nearly recorded a hat trick in the 71st minute, as she attempted a shot on goal which would be saved.
 
With four minutes left in the contest, Hernandez recorded her fourth and final strike of the game, which found the back of the net on an assist from Sydnee Schuler.
 
Hernandez's goal secured the 3-0 victory for Rose-Hulman, where RHIT's offense outshot Franklin 17-1.
 
On the defensive side, Rose-Hulman did not allow a single shot in the second half, which helped lead to Rose-Hulman's third consecutive shutout of the season.
 
Both Marquardt and Hernandez now lead the team with four goals on the season, while Schuler recorded her team-high fourth assist of the season as well.
 
Rose-Hulman will look to improve to 4-0 in the HCAC as they take on Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday, October 11, at 8:30 PM in Cincinnati, Ohio.
