GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers earned a road win over the Greenville Panthers with a final score of 3-1. This improves the team to 12-7 overall this season.
The Greenville Panthers entered the match with an eight-game winning streak and an undefeated record at home at 5-0. Rose-Hulman snapped both streaks, defeating the Panthers with set scores of 27-25, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-18.
Emma Blanton led the team with a double-double, recording 13 kills and 13 digs. The team had three other players reach double figures in kills, including
Hannah Bergfeld with 12, and
Keira Ohse and
Greta Carlson with 11 each.
Julia Irmen was able to set up her teammates with a team-high 40 assists.
Lily Ebright was the standout defensively, leading the team with 24 digs.
Rose-Hulman fell behind in the first set 20-15. The Fightin' Engineers rallied with a 9-4 run to tie the match at 24-24. The team picked up the win in the first set 27-25 after a kill by Bergfeld to set the tone early in the match.
The Fightin' Engineers dominated in the second set, holding onto the lead for the entire time. The team finished the set with another kill by Bergfeld, and a service ace by Ebright to defeat the Panthers 25-20 and take the 2-0 lead in the match.
After dropping a close third set 25-23, Rose-Hulman bounced back to earn the victory in set four with a final score of 25-18.
The Rose-Hulman volleyball team will return to conference play, traveling to take on Berea on Saturday, October 11, at 1 PM.
