NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman football team picked up a road win over Manchester University on Saturday with a final score of 35-13. This improves the team to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the HCAC this season.
Alexander Marsteller had a breakout game with a career-high 203 yards rushing with two touchdowns in the big win.
Adam Yue led the offense with 187 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Austin Porter was the top receiver with six catches for 69 yards and one touchdown.
Augustus Shryock had a monster game on defense with 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Antonio Barnes was another standout on the defensive end with a team-high eight tackles.
The Fightin' Engineers started the game driving the entire distance of the field on their opening drive. The team went 99 yards in 10 plays, finished off by a 39-yard touchdown reception from Porter to take the early 7-0 lead. Yue continued to show off his arm, connecting with
Avery Cody in the second quarter on a 54-yard touchdown reception to build the Rose-Hulman lead to 14-0.
Wyatt Bell made a huge defensive play, recording an interception with 6:09 remaining in the first half to set the Fightin' Engineers up with great field position. Marsteller broke free on the very next play, scoring a rushing touchdown from 33 yards out to make the score 21-0.
Manchester reached the end zone in the final seconds of the first half, but failed on their extra point attempt to make the score 21-6 at halftime.
The Spartans decreased the deficit on their first drive of the second half. Manchester drove 64 yards in nine plays to score on an 11-yard pass, making the extra point, to trail the Fightin' Engineers 21-13.
Rose-Hulman answered in the fourth quarter with a blocked punt by
William Fleck that was recovered by
Hunter Kauffman. Kauffman returned the blocked punt all the way for the score from 19 yards out to replenish the Rose-Hulman lead to 28-13.
The Fightin' Engineers added one more score, after a three-play, 63-yard drive ended in a seven-yard rushing touchdown by Marsteller to seal the victory at 35-13.
The Fightin' Engineers will return home to host Anderson on Saturday, November 8, at 2 PM.
