TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers earned a shutout win over the Anderson Ravens with a final score of 38-0. The win improves the team to 3-6 overall and 3-2 in the HCAC.
Alexander Marsteller had another outstanding performance with 198 yards rushing and one rushing touchdown. He also totaled three catches for 56 yards and a receiving touchdown.
Adam Yue put together an impressive performance, going nine for 18 with 163 yards passing and two touchdowns through the air.
Joseph Alexion was the top receiver with three catches for 67 yards.
The defense was led by
Rudy Griffing with six tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss.
William Fleck also made an impact defensively with three tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks.
The game started slowly with both teams struggling offensively. Rose-Hulman was able to strike first, putting together a seven-play, 33-yard drive that ended in a 31-yard field goal by
Trevor Saguto.
The Fightin' Engineers would strike again on a gutsy play on 4th and 3 from the Anderson 21-yard line. Yue connected with
Ben Klein, who evaded defenders all the way to the end zone for the 21-yard score to extend the Rose-Hulman lead to 10-0.
Marsteller built the Rose-Hulman lead once more, after finishing a three-play, 67-yard drive with a 34-yard touchdown reception from Yue to make the score 17-0.
As the half was coming to an end, the Fightin' Engineers' special teams unit was able to make an impact. After driving down the field, Anderson was set up with a 52-yard field goal attempt with one second remaining on the clock. The attempt was blocked by
William Fleck and returned by
Antonio Barnes 55 yards for a touchdown. This made the score 24-0 heading into halftime.
Rose-Hulman controlled the pace in the second half to protect their lead. Marsteller earned his second touchdown of the day on a 66-yard rush to make the score 31-0 with 2:43 remaining in the third quarter.
The Fightin' Engineers put together a long drive in the fourth quarter to run the clock. The team finished a 15-play, 66-yard drive that took up 10 minutes and 28 seconds with a one-yard touchdown rush by
Aiden Lanham. This was the first career score for the freshman running back, and sealed the shutout victory over the Ravens.
Rose-Hulman will return to action for Senior Day against the Mount St. Joseph Lions on Saturday, November 15, at 1:30 PM. Both teams will be competing for a chance to play in the Division III Football Bowl Series at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
