TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman is moving on to the HCAC Semifinals, as they defeated the Anderson Ravens in a thrilling 1-0 victory.
The Fightin' Engineers attempted the first shot of the match as
Cameron Hannah recorded a header that just sailed wide of the goal.
The Ravens would respond with a fifth-minute strike by Luke Weinman V, which was hauled in by
Justin Burns. Burns added a diving save in the 24
th minute, where he denied a shot from Wesley Lewis.
Three minutes later, Rose-Hulman recorded a deep pass downfield to
Eli Miller. Miller took one touch and fired a shot on goal down the middle, which was saved by Braydon Kennedy.
Burns secured his third save in the 36
th minute, before the half would conclude in a 0-0 tie. The Ravens outshot the Fightin' Engineers 6-4, while recording three shots on goal to one from Rose-Hulman.
Nick Phillips opened the half with a 55th-minute header towards the goal, which sailed wide left.
Anderson would later be awarded a free kick from outside the left corner of the box. Jack Harris took the kick, and he attempted a shot down the middle, which was saved by Burns.
The Fightin' Engineers' offense would dominate possession over the next few minutes, and they were awarded a 78th-minute corner kick.
Oliver Fila's cross into the box was deflected by multiple players before the pass was fielded by
Evan Lipsky. Lipsky fired a strike from the top of the box towards the right side, which sailed past Anderson's keeper and into the back of the net to give RHIT the 1-0 lead.
The Ravens would immediately drive down the field, but
Aidan Kriek made a big-time diving save right outside the box to help keep Rose-Hulman in the lead.
Anderson would draw another foul deep in Rose-Hulman territory, where Ashton Kuss' 84th-minute free kick would ricochet off the crossbar.
The Ravens had one last chance to tie the game, but Burns denied Weinman's 85th-minute shot, to secure the 1-0 playoff victory for Rose-Hulman.
The Fightin' Engineers will face the Hanover Panthers on the road in the HCAC Semifinals. The match will kick off on Wednesday, November 5, at 2 PM.
