LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Rose-Hulman men's cross country finished second as a team at the Great Lakes Regional Championship on Saturday. The team totaled a score of 94, behind Hope College, for their best team finish in program history.
Sam Rinker placed first overall, winning the Regional Championship with a time of 24:51.27. His teammate
Joshua Pohle followed closely behind him with a second-place finish in a time of 24:52.77.
Rinker is the first student-athlete to win the Regional Championship in Rose-Hulman school history. Following Rinker, Pohle's second-place finish is also the best finish individually at the regional meet in program history.
Eduardo del Rosal was the next top finisher for Rose-Hulman, finishing in 25th place with a time of 25:43.13. He was packed up with teammate
Will Boschen, who finished 26th with a time of 25:43.19.
Rhys Phelps rounded out the top five finishers with a 40th-place finish and a time of 26:01.73.
This is the top team finish by the Fightin' Engineers in program history, and the best finish since the team placed third in the region in 2014.
Rinker and Pohle earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship on Saturday, November 22, at 11 AM. The rest of the team will wait to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the championship meet. The announcement will be made by the NCAA on Sunday, November 6, by 3 PM.
