TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Sophomore Sam Rinker has been named the HCAC Athlete of the Week, following a first-place finish at the Great Lakes Regional Championship.
 
Rinker posted a career-best time of 24:51.27 at the Great Lakes Regional Championship, becoming the first athlete in school history to win the regional title.
 
He is also the first athlete from the HCAC to win the Great Lakes Regional Championship, and the third underclassman to win the competition since 2000.
 
The Noblesville, Ind. native helped lead Rose-Hulman to a second-place finish, where they recorded a team score of 94 points to qualify for the national tournament.
 
The Fightin' Engineers will compete in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships for the third time in school history, having previously qualified in 2014 and 1974. The meet will be held in Spartanburg, S.C., on Saturday, November 22, at 10 AM.
