TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team picked up a key win over the Bluffton Beavers on Senior Day with a final score of 79-66. This improves the team to 15-9 overall and 12-5 in the HCAC.
The team took the time before the game to honor their two seniors
Miles McGowen and
Simon Blair. Both student-athletes were recognized for their dedication to the men's basketball program by their teammates and family members.Â
Joey Schmitz had the hot hand for Rose-Hulman leading the team with 24 points shooting 6-8 from beyond the arc.
Miles McGowen recorded 20 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Kobe Stoudemire also reached double figures with 15 points and a team-high five steals.Â
A made three by Schmitz capped off a 9-2 run for Rose-Hulman to give them their largest lead of the first half with the score at 30-19 with 7:39 remaining. Bluffton battled back to cut the deficit to one on a made layup in the final seconds to trail Rose-Hulman 38-37 at the halftime break.
Rose-Hulman trailed the Beavers 65-62 with 3:38 remaining in the game. Schmitz stepped up for the Fightin' Engineers hitting a big three to tie the game at 65-65. A steal by Blair led to another three-pointer by Schmitz on the next possession to put Rose-Hulman in front 68-65.Â
The Fightin' Engineers ended the game on a 16-1 run to silence the Beavers and claim the victory. The win gives Rose-Hulman home-court advantage in the first round of the HCAC Tournament, solidifying their spot in the top four teams.Â
Rose-Hulman will return to Hulbert Arena to face Earlham in their regular season finale on Wednesday, February 19, at 7:30 PM.Â
