DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers traveled to face #25 Centre in a three-game series over the weekend. The team suffered a loss to the Colonels in their first game on Friday night with a final score of 14-4 after eight innings. This drops Rose-Hulman to 1-1 overall this season.
Connor O'Connell was a standout for the Fightin' Engineers going 3-5 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI.
Peter Rogers also made an impact finishing the game 2-5 at the plate with one run and one RBI.
Rose-Hulman got on the board first after a single by
Michael Stenger brought in a run by O'Connell in the top of the first. Centre quickly took the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs on a grand slam to make the score 4-1.
The Fightin' Engineers cut the lead to one after runs by
Mark Serdinak and
Mason Rasmussen in the second inning made the score 4-3. Centre answered with six unanswered scores to take a commanding lead that would ultimately lead to the win over Rose-Hulman.
Brad Nardi suffered the loss on the mound for Rose-Hulman pitching 3.0 innings with three strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman will continue their series against Centre with a single game on Saturday, March 1, at 1 PM. The three-game series will wrap up on Sunday, March 2, at 1 PM.
