TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers earned an exciting win over Elmhurst in their first game of the weekend series on Friday night with a final score of 8-6 after 11 innings. This improves the team to 3-6 overall this season.
Mason Rasmussen was the hero of the night, winning the game for the Fightin' Engineers on a walk-off home run in extra innings. He finished the game going 2-5 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Peter Rogers also had a productive day at the plate going 2-4 with one run scored and two RBIs.
Elmhurst took the lead first after a two-run homer in the third inning made the score 2-0. Rose-Hulman answered in the fifth with a single by
Jackson Harms and a double by
Jonathan Oliger to bring in runs by Rasmussen and Harms, tying the game at 2-2.
Rose-Hulman jumped in front, scoring four runs across the sixth and seventh innings to stand ahead 6-2. Elmhurst answered with a grand slam to tie the game in the eighth and send the contest into extra innings.
Rasmussen took care of the rest, sending a hard-hit ball into left field for the walk-off home run to win the game for the Fightin' Engineers after 11 innings.
Brady Strawmyer had a solid start for the Fightin' Engineers on the mound, pitching 7.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Alec Lewandowski earned the win pitching 1.0 inning with two strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman will continue their weekend series against Elmhurst in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 15 at 12 PM and 3 PM.
