TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers finished their weekend series against Elmhurst, completing the sweep with two wins on Sunday with scores of 11-10 and 10-7. This improves the team to 6-6 overall this season.
The team finished their delayed game from Saturday, picking up in the third inning with the Fightin' Engineers in front 6-3.
Rose-Hulman continued to build their lead, adding another run in the third and three runs in the fifth to stand ahead 10-4.
Elmhurst battled back to tie the game in the top of the eighth with a score of 10-10. The Fightin' Engineers earned the win in the bottom of the ninth with
Michael Stenger scoring on a wild pitch to defeat the Blue Jays.
Colton Brown was the standout at the plate going 3-4 with two runs scored.
Zacheus Carr earned the win at the mound pitching 1.1 innings.
In the second game of the day, Rose-Hulman took control early. A home run by
Tyler Otroszko and a double by
Mason Rasmussen bringing in two runs by
Connor O'Connell and
Peter Rogers put the Fightin' Engineers ahead 4-0 after the third inning.
A single by
Jackson Harms in the seventh inning brought in two more runs for Rose-Hulman to make the score 7-3. Elmhurst had a productive eighth inning, scoring four runs to tie the game at 7-7.
Rose-Hulman answered in the bottom of the eighth with a run by
Jonathan Oliger and a two-run homer by O'Connell to put the game out of reach.
Rogers led the team at the plate going 3-5 with two runs scored. Carr earned the win at the mound coming in for relief in the eighth inning.
The team will return to action on the road, facing Earlham in HCAC play on Saturday, March 22 at 1 PM and 4 PM.
