GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman softball team suffered two tough losses to Greenville University on Saturday with scores of 9-0 and 6-2. This drops the team to 6-6 overall this season.
In the first game of the day, Greenville got on the board first with a run in the first inning. The Panthers opened up their lead, adding another run in the third and four runs in the fourth to make the score 6-0.Â
The lead would be too much to overcome for the Fightin' Engineers as they would suffer the loss after six innings.Â
Phoebe Worstell got the start against the talented Greenville team in the circle. She suffered the loss, pitching 3.2 innings with three strikeouts.Â
Rose-Hulman came out strong in the second game of the doubleheader. The Fightin' Engineers took the early lead after a run by
Katelyn Sarvis in the second inning and a run by
Lucille Pyrz in the third made the score 2-0.
Greenville was able to answer with an offensive surge in the third inning, putting up five runs to jump in front. Rose-Hulman struggled to get the bats going for the remainder of the game and would come up short in the hard-fought loss.Â
Aubrey Smith pitched the entire 6.0 innings, recording three strikeouts.Â
The Fightin' Engineers will look to bounce back as they begin conference play on the road against Transylvania on Saturday, March 29, at 1 PM and 3 PM.
