TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers picked up two wins over the Berea Mountaineers in their HCAC doubleheader on Tuesday. The team defeated Berea with scores of 4-3 and 11-1. This advances the team to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the HCAC.
In the first game of the day, Rose-Hulman took the early lead on a run by
Michael Stenger. After a run by Berea in the fourth, the Fightin' Engineers answered with a double by
Caleb Frakes to score a run by
Jonathan Oliger.
The Mountaineers tied the game in the sixth inning to make it 2-2 heading into the final frame. Berea put the pressure on Rose-Hulman, taking the lead in the top of the ninth to make the score 3-2.
The Fightin' Engineers claimed the win on a walk-off double by
Jackson Harms, bringing in runs by
Connor O'Connell and
Peter Rogers.
Rogers led the team at the plate, going 3-5 with one run scored.
Brad Nardi had a quality start, pitching 7.0 innings with six strikeouts. Oliger earned the win on the mound, coming in for 2.0 innings of relief with one strikeout.
In the second game, Rose-Hulman took control early after scoring four runs in the bottom of the second to take a commanding lead.
The Fightin' Engineers continued to keep the bats going, excelling on offense to defeat the Mountaineers after eight innings.
O'Connell was the standout at the plate for Rose-Hulman, finishing the game going 3-5 with one run and three RBIs.
Jackson Summers was another playmaker, going 2-4 at the dish with one run and two RBIs.
Andrew Noblitt earned the win on the mound, pitching 6.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman will continue conference play, traveling to face Manchester on Saturday, March 29, at 1 PM and 4 PM.
