NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman baseball team traveled to take on Manchester in HCAC action on Saturday. The team fell short in both games of the doubleheader against the Spartans with final scores of 12-9 and 11-5. This drops the team to 9-9 overall and 3-3 in the HCAC.
In the first game of the day, Rose-Hulman took control early. An explosive second inning put the Fightin' Engineers in front 5-0 after doubles from
Jackson Harms and
Tyler Otroszko, and an error by the Spartans brought in multiple runs.
Rose added another run in the third inning to make the score 6-0 after a single by
Colton Brown brought in a run by
Mason Rasmussen. Manchester fought their way back into the game, scoring 11 unanswered runs from the third to the fifth inning. The lead proved to be too much to overcome as the Fightin' Engineers dropped game one of the doubleheader.
Harms led the team at the plate, finishing 4-5 with one run scored and three RBIs.
Brady Strawmyer suffered the loss on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings with one strikeout.
Manchester kept their momentum heading into the second game of the day. The Spartans jumped to an 8-0 lead after two innings.
Rose-Hulman answered in the third with a solo home run by
Peter Rogers and a single from Rasmussen to bring in a run by Harms to make the score 8-2.
Rogers earned his second home run of the day on a bomb to left center that scored two runs in the seventh inning to make the score 10-5. Manchester was able to hold their lead for the remainder of the contest to claim the sweep over the Fightin' Engineers.
Rogers finished the game going 2-5 at the dish with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Camden Judson suffered the loss on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings with one strikeout.
The Fightin' Engineers baseball team will return home to host Greenville on Wednesday, April 2, at 6 PM.
