BLUFFTON, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman baseball team traveled to face Bluffton in an HCAC doubleheader on Saturday. The team earned the sweep over the Beavers with final scores of 8-1 and 10-9 to advance to 13-12 overall and 6-5 in the HCAC this season.
In the first game of the day, Rose-Hulman earned a dominant win. The team took the lead, scoring two runs in the first two innings.
The Beavers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third to avoid the shutout.
The Fightin' Engineers controlled the game the rest of the way, scoring six unanswered runs to claim the win.
Tyler Otroszko led the team, going 3-5 with two RBIs.
Peter Rogers was another standout, going 2-5 at the plate with two runs scored.
Brady Strawmyer earned the win on the mound, pitching 7.0 innings with four strikeouts.
The second game of the day was a competitive one. Rose-Hulman got off to a strong start, jumping to a 3-0 lead in the second inning.
Bluffton answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to make the score 3-2. A double by
Mark Serdinak brought in a run by Otroszko and
Issei Takahashi got home after a throwing error by the Beavers to extend the Rose-Hulman lead to 5-2 in the fourth inning.
Bluffton battled back in the sixth inning to erase the deficit and tie the game at 7-7. The Beavers took the lead, putting up two runs in the seventh to make the score 9-7.
The Fightin' Engineers rallied with
Ryland Hixon scoring on a throwing error by the Beavers to make the score 9-8.
Otroszko was the hero of the day, regaining the lead on a two-run homer to left field to put Rose-Hulman in front for good.
Otroszko had a monster second game, going 2-4 at the plate with three runs scored and four RBIs.
Zacheus Carr claimed the win on the mound, and
Jonathan Oliger earned the save.
Rose-Hulman will return home to host Franklin in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 13, at 1 PM and 4 PM.
