TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers hosted Berea in an HCAC doubleheader on Sunday. The team earned two wins over the Mountaineers with final scores of 7-5 and 8-0. This improves the team to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the HCAC.
Rose-Hulman got off to a strong start in the first game, scoring 6 runs in the top of the first. Berea answered with a three-run homer in the second to cut the deficit in half with the score at 6-3.
The Fightin' Engineers would hold off the Mountaineers to claim the win in the first half of the doubleheader.
Kayla Schnippel led the team at the plate, going 3-4 with one run and two RBIs.
Aubrey Smith earned the win in the circle, pitching 3.1 innings with four strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman earned a dominant win in the second game of the day.
Jessica Newsom got the scoring started with a solo home run to left field to give her team the lead.
Newsom
was perfect at the plate, going 3-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Phoebe Worstell added another home run in the first inning, bringing around a run by Smith to make the score 3-0.
The Fightin' Engineers extended their lead with four runs in the fourth inning to make the score 7-0. The team defeated the Mountaineers on a base hit by
Lucille Pyrz that brought in the game-winning run by
Kate Minikey.
Worstell earned the win in the circle, pitching all 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts.
The softball team will hit the road to take on Franklin College on Wednesday, April 16, at 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
