CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman baseball team earned a split against the Mount St. Joseph Lions to open their weekend series. The team fell short in game one, 17-15, and won game two, 6-4. This puts the team at 16-14 overall and 9-6 in the HCAC.
The first game of the day featured some great hitting by both teams. After Mount St. Joseph scored three runs in the first, Rose-Hulman put up nine runs to take the lead in the second inning on six hits.Â
The Lions answered with six runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 9-9. Mount St. Joseph took the lead in the third with two runs to make the score 11-9.Â
After the Fightin' Engineers tied the game in the fourth,
Colton Brown put the team up big with a three-run homer to make the score 14-11.Â
MSJ mounted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth and won the game on a walk-off home run to seal the victory in the first game of the weekend series.Â
Jackson Harms was a standout at the plate, going 3-5 on the day with three runs scored and three RBIs.Â
The Fightin' Engineers were able to bounce back in the second half of the doubleheader to defeat the Lions.Â
MSJ took the early lead with three runs in the first. A single by
Jonathan Oliger brought in a run by
Jackson Summers to cut the deficit to two runs in the top of the second.Â
Both teams went cold at the plate for the next couple of innings. Summers hit a solo shot to center field to decrease the MSJ lead to 3-2 in the seventh inning.Â
After the Lions added another run, Rose-Hulman responded with runs scored by
Peter Rogers and
Tyler Otroszko to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the final frame.Â
Harms was the hero for the Fightin' Engineers, taking the lead for good on a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to secure the win.Â
Summers was the standout in game two, going 2-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.Â
Camden Judson had a solid start for the Fightin' Engineers on the bump, finishing the game with 7.0 innings pitched and seven strikeouts.
Caleb Mosteller earned the win on the mound, pitching 2.0 innings with three strikeouts.Â
Rose-Hulman will wrap up their weekend series against the Lions with a game on Saturday, April 19, at 1 PM.Â
