Baseball Wins the HCAC Series Against MSJ with Win on Saturday

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers finished their weekend series against the Mount St. Joseph Lions on Saturday with a win, 11-4. This improves the team to 17-14 overall and 10-6 in the HCAC. 

The Fightin' Engineers struck first with runs by Peter Rogers and Tyler Otroszko in the first inning to take the early 2-0 lead. After the Lions scored a run in the second, Connor O'Connell hit a solo homer to right field to replenish the lead, making the score 3-1. 

The Lions bounced back to tie the game at 3-3 with two runs in the fourth. Rose-Hulman jumped back in front with a strong sixth and seventh inning, capped off by a Jackson Summers three-run home run to make the score 9-3. 

MSJ added another run in the seventh, but the Fightin' Engineers were able to close out the game to defeat the Lions and claim the HCAC series win.

Otroszko was a standout at the plate, finishing the game going 2-3 with three runs scored. O'Connell also had an impressive performance, finishing the day perfect at the plate, going 2-2 with one run scored and three RBIs.

Brad Nardi earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.0 innings with three strikeouts. Liam Richardson earned his first save of the year, coming in to finish the game with 4.0 innings pitched and one strikeout. 

Rose-Hulman baseball will hit the road to take on DePauw on Wednesday, April 23, at 4:30 PM.
