TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers picked up two wins in their doubleheader against Blackburn on Monday with final scores of 5-0 and 12-0. This improves the team to 12-10 overall this season.
The first game of the day featured an incredible performance by
Aubrey Smith in the circle. She earned the shutout win and the no-hitter, finishing the game with 7.0 innings pitched and seven strikeouts.Â
The game started as a pitching duel with both offenses struggling to get going. After five scoreless innings, Rose-Hulman jumped in front, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth.Â
This proved to be enough to earn the Fightin' Engineers the win in game one.
Katelyn Sarvis led the team at the plate, going 2-3 with one run and one RBI.Â
Rose-Hulman continued to dominate in the second half of the doubleheader. A single by Sarvis brought in a run by
Jessica Newsom to give Rose the 1-0 lead in the first inning.Â
Alexa Miller hit her first career home run, scoring three runs in the first to extend the Rose-Hulman lead to 4-0.Â
Gabriella Ezzell joined in on the fun with a home run of her own in the second inning to add another run to the team's lead.Â
Ezzell put the game out of reach with her second home run of the day on a grand slam in the third to make the score 10-0.
Phoebe Worstell picked up the win in the circle, going 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Ezzell finished a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored, two home runs, and five RBIs.
