Rose-Hulman Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Earlham on Sunday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers softball team earned a split in their doubleheader against Earlham on Sunday, suffering a loss in game one 2-1, and winning game two 4-0. This improves the team to 16-12 overall and 8-6 in the HCAC. 

Aubrey Smith got the team going early with a solo homer in the first to give Rose-Hulman the lead. The game turned into a pitching duel after that, with both teams struggling to score. 

Earlham tied the game with a solo home run of their own in the sixth inning. The Quakers jumped in front in the top of the seventh with another run to make the score 2-1. Rose-Hulman was unable to answer and suffered the loss. 

Smith suffered the loss in the circle, pitching a complete game with 7.0 innings pitched and five strikeouts. 

The Fightin' Engineers bounced back to win the second game of the day. Smith doubled in the third inning to bring in a run by Jessica Newsom

Then Rose-Hulman scored two runs on two errors by the Quakers to stand ahead 3-0. A single by Emily Hodges extended the team's lead to 4-0, scoring a run by Smith to seal the shutout win. 

Phoebe Worstell earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game shutout, going 7.0 innings with nine strikeouts. 

The team will continue their conference schedule on the road against Anderson on Wednesday, April 30, at 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
