TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers split their doubleheader on Monday against the Hanover Panthers, falling in game one 5-3 and earning the win in game two 6-1. This puts the team at 11-11 overall and 4-5 in the HCAC.
In the first game of the day, Hanover got on the board first, jumping to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. A run by
Peter Rogers in the first and a solo home run by
Mark Serdinak tied the game at 2-2 in the second.
Hanover went on a run, scoring three unanswered runs to take back the lead 5-2 after the sixth inning. The Panthers were able to hold off the Fightin' Engineers comeback attempt to win the first game of the doubleheader.
Serdinak led the team at the plate, going 4-4 with one run and one RBI.
Andrew Noblitt suffered the loss on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings with one strikeout.
In the second game of the day, Rose-Hulman got off to a strong start. A single by
Connor O'Connell in the first inning scored two runs by
Tyler Otroszko and Rogers to make the score 2-0.
Jackson Summers extended the lead in the second with some crafty base running after stealing third and scoring on a throwing error by the Panthers. Serdinak made it around the bases in the third inning to give Rose-Hulman a healthy 4-0 lead.
Hanover scored a run in the fourth to avoid the shutout, but Rose-Hulman added two more runs to their lead to seal the win across the fifth and seventh innings.
O'Connell led the team at the plate, finishing 3-4 with three RBIs.
Liam Richardson earned the win on the mound, pitching 3.0 innings with three strikeouts, and
Camden Judson was credited with a save for his 3.0 innings of relief pitching.
Rose-Human will return to action on Wednesday, April 9, hosting DePauw at 6:30 PM.
