Rainy Senior Day Ends in Rose-Hulman Sweep Over Transylvania

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers earned a doubleheader sweep on Senior Day to defeat the Transylvania Pioneers with final scores of 4-2 and 8-7. This advances the team to 22-17 overall and 14-8 in the HCAC. 

The team honored their 16 seniors before the start of the first game. Both teams had to battle the weather conditions as the game was put on multiple weather delays throughout the day. 

Rose-Hulman took the lead in the first game of the day after a single by Mark Serdinak brought in runs by Mason Rasmussen and Connor O'Connell. A double by Oliger in the second extended the lead with a run scored by Colton Brown to make the score 3-0. 

Transylvania got on the board with a run in the sixth inning to make the score 3-1. Rose-Hulman answered with a single by Peter Rogers to score a run by Michael Stenger in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win. 

Brad Nardi earned the win on the mound, pitching 6.0 innings with three strikeouts. Jonathan Oliger earned his third save of the year, pitching the last inning with one strikeout. 

O'Connell led the team at the plate, going 3-4 with one run scored. 

Rose-Hulman continued their momentum into the second game of the day to complete the sweep over the Pioneers. 

Transylvania took the lead 3-2 after the third inning of play. Rose-Hulman jumped back in front after a triple by O'Connell scored a run by Tyler Otroszko, and a single by Rasmussen scored a run by Oliger in the bottom of the third to make the score 4-3. 

Transylvania tied the game with a run in the fourth, but Rose-Hulman quickly regained the lead with three runs in the fourth to make the score 7-4. 

A home run by Jackson Summers in the bottom of the seventh extended the lead once again ot 8-4. 

Transylvania threatened to tie the game with a run in the eighth and two runs in the ninth, but Rose-Hulman was able to hang on to complete the sweep. 

Liam Richardson picked up the win on the mound for Rose-Hulman with 5.0 innings pitched and one strikeout. Oliger earned his second save of the day and his fourth of the season, pitching the last 0.2 innings with two strikeouts. 

O'Connell was the star at the plate, going a perfect 4-4 on the day with one run and two RBIs. 

Rose-Hulman has locked in their spot in the HCAC Tournament and will await the results of the Anderson and Hanover game on Sunday, May 4, to see if they will be the #2 seed or the #3 seed.
