LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman softball team suffered a narrow loss to Mount St. Joseph with a final score of 2-1 after nine innings. This drops the team to 19-15 overall this season.
Rose-Hulman took the lead after a throwing error by the Lions scored a run by
Phoebe Worstell in the fourth inning. Mount St. Joseph answered to tie the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth to force extra innings.Â
The Lions earned the win with a walk-off base hit in the ninth inning to hand Rose-Hulman their first loss in the HCAC Tournament.Â
Jessica Newsom led the team at the plate, finishing 3-4 at the plate.
Aubrey Smith got the start in the circle with 7.0 innings pitched and one strikeout. Worstell suffered the loss, pitching 1.2 innings with three strikeouts.Â
Rose-Hulman will return to action in the HCAC Tournament on Friday, May 9, against Franklin at 12:30 PM.Â
