LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers softball team picked up a win in their first game of the HCAC Tournament against Earlham with a final score of 6-2. This improves the team to 19-14.
Earlham took the lead in the bottom of the second with a solo homer.
Katelyn Sarvis answered for the Fightin' Engineers with a single to bring in runs by
Phoebe Worstell and
Aubrey Smith to take the lead 2-1.
Rose-Hulman extended their lead in the fourth with two more runs to make the score at 4-1. After a run by the Quakers in the fourth, Rose extended their lead once again with two more runs scored by
Megan Newton and
Kate Minikey to boost the lead to 6-2 and seal the win for the Fightin' Engineers.
Worstell was exceptional at the plate, leading the team, going 4-5 at the plate with one run scored. Smith earned the win in the circle, pitching 4.0 innings with two strikeouts. Worstell picked up a save in the circle, pitching 3.0 innings with three strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman will continue the HCAC Tournament, facing Mount St. Joseph University later today at approximately 5:30 PM.
