TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Fightin' Engineers picked up a win on Wednesday night over Webster to remain undefeated on the year at 7-0. The team swept the Gorloks in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 25-17. This is the team's best start to a season since 2010, when the Fightin' Engineers went 9-0 to start the year.
Keira Ohse led the team with 11 kills in the match.
Amaya Harrell also reached double figures in kills with 10 and totaled a team-high .471 attack percentage.
Julia Irmen was able to set her teammates up for success, leading the Fightin' Engineers with 34 assists.
Lily Ebright was the standout defensively with 17 digs.
Aurora Schmidt also reached double figures with 12 digs on the night.
In the first set, the score remained close with the Fightin' Engineers leading 17-16. Rose-Hulman finished the set strong with an 8-1 run to take the early lead in the match.
The second set came down to the wire with the Fightin' Engineers ahead 24-19. Webster battled back to cut the lead to 24-22, but a kill by Ohse would give the Fightin' Engineers the win in the set and the 2-0 lead.
The team took care of business in the third set to complete the sweep, ending the match on a 5-2 run.
The Rose-Hulman volleyball team will return to action on Saturday, September 13, as they travel to compete in the Earlham Invitational. The Fightin' Engineers will face Kenyon at 11 AM and Denison at 3 PM.
