BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team took on the Coe College Kohawks on Friday night to begin the IWU Classic. The Fightin' Engineers suffered a loss to the Kohawks after four sets with a final score of 3-1. This drops the team to 9-2 overall this season.
Rose-Hulman finished the match with three players reaching double figures in kills, including
Emma Blanton with 20,
Greta Carlson with 17, and
Keira Ohse with 10.
Lily Ebright led the defense for the Fightin' Engineers with a season-high 35 digs on the night.
Julia Irmen also reached double figures in digs with 13.
After narrowly falling in the first two sets, 27-25 and 26-24, Rose-Hulman was able to gain the advantage in the third set.
After being tied 15-15, the Fightin' Engineers strung together three points to take the lead 18-15. Rose-Hulman held the lead for the rest of the set, finishing with a 5-0 scoring run to claim the victory 25-18.
Coe would win a competitive fourth set with a score of 25-22 to ultimately defeat the Fightin' Engineers.
The volleyball team will continue the IWU Classic on Saturday, September 20, facing Illinois Wesleyan and Wittenberg at 10 AM CT and 2 PM CT.
