BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team wrapped up their weekend of competition, facing #10 Illinois Wesleyan and (RV) Wittenberg. The team suffered losses to both opponents with final scores of 3-0. This drops the team to 9-4 overall this season.
Rose-Hulman held their own in their first match of the day against the #10 team in the country, Illinois Wesleyan. The Titans stood ahead 22-16 in the first set. Rose-Hulman rallied to cut the lead to 23-20 after a 4-1 run, but the Titans would finish strong to claim the set win with a final of 25-21.
Illinois Wesleyan earned wins in the next two sets to sweep the Fightin' Engineers with scores of 25-13 and 25-16.
Greta Carlson led the team with nine kills, followed by
Emma Blanton with eight kills in the match.
Julia Irmen was exceptional in setting up her teammates, totaling 24 assists. Blanton and Irmen led the team defensively with nine digs each.
The team faced Wittenberg in their second match of the day. The Fightin' Engineers battled hard, falling in close sets with scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-17.
Carlson finished the match with a team-high 11 kills.
Amaya Harrell also made an impact with eight kills. Irmen totaled 29 assists, and
Lily Ebright led the team with 20 digs.
The women's volleyball team will return home to host Blackburn on Wednesday, September 24, at 7 PM.
