Dension Prevails over Rose-Hulman in Hard-Fought Battle

GRANVILLE, Ohio. – The Fightin' Engineers were unable to take down Denison, as the Big Red won a hard-fought game by a score of 1-0.
 
Denison quickly jumped into the lead with Mattie Mielke scoring an 8th minute goal on an assist from Isabella Guzman. They attempted another shot on goal five minutes later, which was saved by senior Brooke Spurlock.
 
The Big Red earned three consecutive corner kicks in the 17th minute, where they would be denied by Rose-Hulman's defense every time. In the 19th minute, senior Alex Adams nearly tied the game for RHIT, but her shown down the middle was saved by Molly Noga.
 
Spurlock would record her second save of the half in the 30th minute, securing a stop on a shot down the middle. Denison would conclude the half with six shots, while Rose-Hulman finished the period with two.
 
Rose-Hulman would have another opportunity in the 54th minute, where senior Lauren Marquardt's shot down the middle was saved. Sophomore Sydnee Schuler also added a shot in the 69th minute, which sailed wide right.
 
Spurlock would keep the Big Red off the board in the second half, as she accumulated two more saves in the 76th and 85th minute. Rose-Hulman would have one last opportunity in the 87th minute, as Marquardt fired another shot on goal which just sailed wide right.
 
Denison finished the match with a 1-0 victory on their home field, where they finished the game with 11 total shots to five from Rose-Hulman.
 
Rose-Hulman will travel to Greencastle, Ind., as they take on DePauw, Wednesday, September 24 at 7:30 PM.
