Volleyball Falls in Doubleheader Against UW-River Falls and UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team faced UW-River Falls and #4 UW-Whitewater on Saturday to wrap up the UW-Whitewater Invitational. The team suffered two losses, falling to River Falls 3-1, and dropping their match against UW-Whitewater 3-0. This moves the team to 11-6 overall this season. 

Both Emma Blanton and Julia Irmen earned All-Tournament Team for their efforts across the weekend of competition. 

Emma Blanton led the team in the first match of the day against UW-River Falls with a double-double, recording 19 kills and 15 digs. Julia Irmen also totaled a double-double for the third consecutive match with 42 assists and 14 digs. Other standouts offensively were Greta Carlson with 15 kills and Keira Ohse with 10 kills. 

Lily Ebright was exceptional for the Fightin' Engineers, leading the defense with 31 digs. Shae Clements also reached double figures in digs with 12. 

Rose-Hulman battled hard in the first set. After trailing 25-24, the Fightin' Engineers bounced back with three straight points to claim the set win 27-25 with kills by Amaya Harrell and Carlson. 

River Falls went on to win the next three sets to defeat the Fightin' Engineers with set scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-22. 

Rose-Hulman faced a tough opponent in the second match of the day. The team held their own against the #4 team in the country with three tight sets. 

UW-Whitewater finished the match, sweeping Rose-Hulman with set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-22. 

Carlson and Blanton led the team with 11 kills each. Lily Ebright was the standout on defense with a team-high 13 digs. 

Both Emma Blanton and Julia Irmen earned All-Tournament Team for their efforts across the weekend of competition. 

The Rose-Hulman women's volleyball team will return home for their conference opener against Transylvania for homecoming on Saturday, October 4, at 11 AM.
