TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman closed out the Rose-Hulman Invitational with a perfect 3-0 record. The Fightin' Engineers defeated the Knox College Prairie Fire 3-0 and took down the Ohio Northern Polar Bears 3-1.
Game One vs. Knox College Prairie Fire
The Fightin' Engineers opened today's tournament, taking down Knox by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-11 across three sets.
Senior
Amaya Harrell had herself a phenomenal series where she recorded 15 kills, with seven coming in the third set. She finished the match with a team-high 15.5 points, while recording a 52.0% attack percentage.
The Fightin' Engineers recorded 44 assists as a team, with 38 coming from sophomore
Julia Irmen. She recorded 15 assists in the first set and nearly matched that total with 14 in set two.
The sophomore trio of
Desiree Beverley,
Keira Ohse and
Aurora Schmidt each posted six kills, with Schmidt adding a team-best three service aces and 12 total digs. She finished the match with nine points, ranked second on the team.
Freshman
Greta Carlson added seven kills while playing in just two sets, highlighted by a five kill performance in set two.
Senior
Lily Ebright concluded the match with a team-high 16 assists, where she recorded a series best ten digs in set two.
Game Two vs. Ohio Northern Polar Bears
Rose-Hulman built off their game one momentum, as they took down Ohio Northern in four sets. RHIT opened the match with a dominant 25-12 victory in set one, and followed that up with a 25-19 set two victory.
Ohio Northern was able to take a game from Rose-Hulman by a score of 25-22, but the Fightin' Engineers cruised to a 26-15 victory in set four, to keep their undefeated record.
Rose-Hulman recorded 63 total kills against the Polar Bears, surpassing their previous season-high of 48 against North Central.
Carlson continued to add to her case for Newcomer of the Year, as she recorded a team-high 19 kills. Carlson closed out the day with seven kills in set four, while adding a service ace, and she finished the match with a total of 21.5 points.
Ohse also thrived on the offensive end, as she racked up 13 kills on an impressive 54.5% attack percentage. She added two service aces and recorded 16 points.
Harrell and Schmidt each added 11 kills of their own, with Schmidt accumulating 16 digs.
Irmen would account for 92% of Rose-Hulman's assists, as she dished out 58 assists while adding 11 digs.
Ebright once again recorded a team-high with 29 digs, securing 11 in set two.
Ebright, Ohse, and Carlson each garnered Rose-Hulman Volleyball All-Tournament honors, making Rose-Hulman the only team to receive three selections.
Following the consecutive victories today, Rose-Hulman has posted a 6-0 record to start the season. The Fightin' Engineers have recorded three 3-0 sweeps on the season, and they have never had a single series go to a fifth set.
RHIT will stay in Terre Haute, as they host Webster this Wednesday, September 10, at 7 PM.
