Panthers Prevail Over Rose-Hulman in Close Contest

HANOVER, Ind. – Rose-Hulman dropped their in-state battle, as the Hanover Panthers pulled out a 65-58 win.
 
Emma Schipp opened Rose-Hulman's scoring with a pair of two-point baskets. CK Gallegos Rodriguez and Anaya Hawkins would later add layups as the Fightin' Engineers took an early 10-3 lead.
 
The Panthers would bounce back with a 12-0 run, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers from Alexis Wines. Katelyn Fennell put an end to the run by scoring on a layup, but Hanover concluded the quarter with a 19-12 lead.
 
Fennell cashed a three pointer to lead off the second, and she knocked down a mid-range shot shortly afterwards to make it a four-point game.
 
Schipp continued to thrive in the paint, as she added another pair of two-point buckets inside the paint. Both teams would trade three pointers, with Fennell's three point basket cutting the lead to four once again.
 
Sophia Reese closed out the half by scoring on a pair of free throws, to conclude the half with a 33-28 lead in favor of the Panthers.
 
Reese recorded a three pointer to lead off the half, which cut the deficit to two. The Panthers would respond by scoring on three straight possessions before a Schipp jumper made it a 39-33 game.
 
A few possessions later, María Godoy Rodriguez stole the ball, which led to a two-point jumper from Fennell.
 
Fennell added another three pointer, but the Panthers would end the third with a pair of free throws to take a 53-42 lead.
 
Fennell knocked down her fourth three pointer of the game on Rose-Hulman's first possession in the fourth quarter. Anaya Hawkins added a three of her own, which cut the lead to five points.
 
Following back-to-back layups from Hanover, Kaia Peterson scored a shot from beyond the arc to keep the Fightin' Engineers in the game. Hawkins would record consecutive blocks on the same possession, which led to a Peterson layup to make it a 58-54 game.
 
Both teams would continue to trade baskets, before a two-pointer from Reese cut the score to 62-58 with a minute remaining. The Fightin' Engineers were forced to foul, and the Panthers iced the game at the line to secure the 65-58 win.
 
Katelyn Fennell scored a team-high 18 points, shooting 7-15 from the field and 4-11 from three-point range. She hauled in four rebounds, dished out two assists and recorded two steals.
 
Sophia Reese dropped 13 points while shooting 5-7 from the floor, 1-1 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 at the free throw line. She added two assists and recorded one steal.
 
Emma Schipp put up nine points, seven rebounds, and two assists, while shooting 4-7 from the floor.
 
CK Gallegos Rodriguez scored four points while securing a team-high eight rebounds. She added two assists, one block, and one steal.
 
The Fightin' Engineers will return home as they take on the Franklin Grizzlies. The match will tip off on Saturday, January 17, at 1 PM.
