FRANKLIN, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team traveled to take on Franklin College on Saturday. The team came away with a win over the Grizzlies with a final score of 74-48. This advances the Fightin' Engineers to 10-6 overall and 7-2 in the HCAC.
Joey Schmitz led the team with 19 points in the contest, shooting 7-11 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the arc.
Christian Torres was another standout with 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Other double-figure scorers included
Nate Smith with 14 and
Jack Jenniges with 10 points. Smith led the team with four assists and six steals in the contest and recorded his second-straight game with zero turnovers.
The Franklin Grizzlies jumped to an early lead with a 7-0 run to start the game. Rose-Hulman quickly answered with an 8-0 run to take the lead in the first five minutes to make the score 8-7.
The score stood tied at 24-24 with 5:54 remaining in the first half. Rose-Hulman finished the final six minutes on a 15-3 run to stand ahead 39-27 at the halftime break.
The Fightin' Engineers dominated in the second half, holding onto the lead for the remainder of the game. The team took their largest lead of the game after a made three-pointer by Schmitz made the score 66-38 with 8:43 remaining.
Rose-Hulman finished the game shooting 49.1% from the field and 42.9% from beyond the arc.
The Fightin' Engineers will continue conference play on the road against Manchester on Wednesday, January 21, at 7:30 PM.
