Mt. St. Joseph Bests the Fightin' Engineers

CINCINNATI, Ohio. – Rose-Hulman's win streak came to an end, as they dropped to the Mt. St. Joseph Lions by a score of 77-50.
 
Katelyn Fennell made an immediate impact for the Fightin' Engineers, scoring all nine of the team's first-quarter points. She scored two buckets in the paint, hit a two-point jumper, and knocked down a shot from beyond the arc.
 
The Lions concluded the first with a 17-9 lead, and they were able to extend their lead to double digits early in the second quarter. Fennell scored on a layup, and CK Gallegos Rodriguez converted a three-pointer on the fast break to put Rose-Hulman back in the game.
 
Kaia Peterson added a pair of layups, and Fennell swished a three-pointer right late in the half. Mt. St. Joseph responded with a three pointer at the buzzer, as the Lions concluded the half up 35-24.
 
María Godoy Rodriguez recorded a steal early in the third, which she assisted to Gallegos Rodriguez for a fastbreak layup. Anaya Hawkins and Kaia Peterson each scored two-pointers on consecutive possessions, making it a 45-36 game.
 
The Fightin' Engineers were able to draw multiple fouls as they scored five consecutive points at the free throw line. With less than a minute in the third, Peterson scored another layup, which cut the lead to 49-43.
 
Both teams shot 4-4 at the free throw line early into the fourth quarter. Following a pair of free throws from Sophia Reese, the Lions swished a three pointer, before following that up by scoring on three straight layups.
 
Peterson added two more free throws, and Gallegos Rodriguez recorded a steal, which she took coast-to-coast for a fast break layup. The Lions would cap off the game by converting a pair of free throws, securing the 70-55 win.
 
Katelyn Fennell dropped a game-high 20 points with six rebounds and one steal. She shot 8-14 from the floor, 2-3 from three, and 2-2 at the free throw line.
 
Kaia Peterson scored 18 points while hauling in two rebounds. She shot 5-10 from the field and 8-11 at the charity stripe.
 
CK Gallegos Rodriguez put up seven points, four rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
 
The Fightin' Engineers will stay on the road as they face Bluffton on Saturday, February 14 at 3 PM.
