Fightin' Engineers Beat Down the Beavers; Improve to #6-Seed in the HCAC

BLUFFTON, Ohio. – Rose-Hulman picked up another big time victory as they took down the Bluffton Beavers by a score of 73-57.
 
Katelyn Fennell opened Rose's scoring from the field as she swished a three-pointer a minute into the match. The first quarter would be very evenly matched, as both teams would trade baskets throughout the period.
 
Julia Meyer scored a two-point jumper in the paint, and she added a pair of free throws to put Rose-Hulman ahead 15-13. She continued to take over in the quarter, as she knocked down a three-pointer to extend the lead to seven.
 
CK Gallegos Rodriguez added three of her own at the buzzer, where RHIT concluded the half up 23-15. María Godoy Rodriguez added a pair of two-point baskets, which helped extend the lead to double figures early in the second.
 
The Fightin' Engineers continued to dominate from beyond the arc as Kaia Peterson scored a three-point shot to make it a 14-point lead. Meyer cashed another three-pointer shortly thereafter, and Gallegos Rodriguez scored on another late layup as RHIT took a 42-28 lead at the half.
 
Rose-Hulman opened the third by scoring on five straight field goals. María Godoy Rodriguez led off the run with a three-pointer, before Sophia Reese and Peterson hit a pair of layups. Anaya Hawkins would then add a layup of her own, and Reese capped off the run with a three-pointer to stretch the lead to 54-30.
 
Reese would add another pair of two pointers, and Meyer scored on a mid-range jumper right before the quarter, as RHIT concluded the third up 64-43.
 
Sophia Reese recorded a steal immediately to start the fourth, which led to a María Godoy Rodriguez layup. Peterson would add a three-pointer before following that up with a fastbreak layup to secure the 73-57 victory for the Fightin' Engineers.
 
Sophia Reese posted a near double-double with 13 points and a season-high nine assists. She shot 6-14 from the floor and 1-3 from three-point range, while adding three rebounds and one steal.
 
Kaia Peterson scored 13 points while shooting 2-3 from beyond the arc. She grabbed nine rebounds, with four coming on the offensive end and two steals.
 
María Godoy Rodriguez had a terrific all-around game where she recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists on 5-13 shooting. She added two steals, while blocking a career-high three shots.
 
Katelyn Fennell recorded her first double-double of the season with ten points and a career-high 13 rebounds. She shot 4-10 from the floor and recorded two assists, one steal, and one block.
 
Julia Meyer put up 12 points and four rebounds, shooting 4-9 from the floor and 2-4 from three-point range.
 
CK Gallegos Rodriguez scored eight points, shooting 3-5 from the field and 1-1 from three-point range. She recorded four rebounds and two assists, while blocking a season-high three shots with two steals.
 
With the victory, Rose-Hulman has jumped two spots in the standings, improving to the #6-seed in the HCAC.
 
The Fightin' Engineers will return to Terre Haute for the final game of the regular season. RHIT will go up against the Earlham Quakers on Wednesday, February 18, at 7 PM.
