BLUFFTON, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team picked up a huge win over the Bluffton Beavers with a final score of 83-58. This improves the team to 15-9 overall and 12-5 in the HCAC.
Joey Schmitz led the team with a monster performance, totaling 26 points and eight rebounds with four steals. Schmitz finished the game shooting 10-17 from the field and 6-8 from beyond the arc.
Evan Gentile was on fire from the field, shooting 7-9 on three pointers to finish the game with 21 points.
The Fightin' Engineers started off strong, building a commanding lead at 27-12 with 7:06 remaining in the first half.
The team stretched their lead to 16 points with a three-pointer by Schmitz to make the score 42-26 at the halftime break.
Rose-Hulman continued their dominance in the second half. The team took their largest lead of the night at 31 points after a made layup by Schmitz moved the score to 71-40.
Rose maintained their lead for the rest of the game to defeat the Beavers. The Fightin' Engineers finished the game shooting 49.2% from the field and 56.7% from beyond the arc. The team also out-rebounded the Beavers 36-29.
With the win, Rose-Hulman clinches one of the top four spots in the HCAC standings. They will host the quarterfinal round of the HCAC Tournament on Saturday, February 21, at 2 PM.
Rose-Hulman men's basketball will wrap up the regular season, traveling to face Earlham on Tuesday, February 17, at 7:30 PM.
