Rose-Hulman Thrashes the Ravens in Senior Day Victory

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman put together their most dominant performance of the season, taking down the #3-seeded Anderson Ravens by a score of 79-54 on Senior Day.
 
The Fightin' Engineers' senior duo of CK Gallegos Rodriguez and Columba Rodriguez Real got off to a hot start in the match. Gallegos Rodriguez knocked down a shot in the paint and followed that up with a pair of free throws on the next possession. Rodriguez Real would then convert a deep two-pointer as RHIT took an early 7-2 lead.
 
Gallegos Rodriguez and Katelyn Fennell each scored buckets in the paint in the middle of the first quarter. Gallegos Rodriguez and Sophia Reese closed out the quarter by swishing three-pointers to give Rose-Hulman a 19-12 first-quarter lead.
 
Rodriguez Real led off the second by scoring a three-pointer. Reese would add her second three of the game shortly thereafter, and she recorded a steal that she took coast-to-coast for an open layup. Following a blocked shot from Gallegos Rodriguez, Rodriguez Real swished another three-pointer, which extended Rose-Hulman's lead to 34-15.
 
The Fightin' Engineers' dominance continued as Kaia Peterson scored on a layup, and Gallegos Rodriguez fought through contact to secure an and-one bucket. Rose-Hulman closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Katelyn Fennell.
 
At the half, Rose-Hulman led by a score of 49-23, shooting 17-34 (50.0%) from the floor, 6-11 (54.5%) from three-point range, and 9-11 (81.8%) from the free throw line. The Fightin' Engineers outscored Anderson 30-10 in the second quarter, and they limited Anderson to 8-35 (22.9%) shooting from the field, and 1-13 (7.7%) shooting from three-point range in the first half.
 
Emma Schipp and Reese each opened the second half by converting on a mid-range jump shot. Fennell added a layup, and she recorded a steal on the following possession, which resulted in a mid-range bucket by María Godoy Rodriguez.
 
Godoy Rodriguez scored three straight shots for the Fightin' Engineers, and a two-point basket from Emma Schipp would give Rose-Hulman a 63-45 lead at the end of the third.
 
Peterson recorded a layup in the fourth quarter, and she followed that up by knocking down four consecutive free throws. Fennell and Reese each scored on two-point jumpers, as RHIT was able to stretch the lead to 75-49.
 
The Fightin' Engineers' defensive presence limited the Ravens to just nine points in the fourth quarter. María Godoy Rodriguez scored the final layup of the game, as the Fightin' Engineers secured the 79-54 victory.
 
Katelyn Fennell scored 15 points while shooting 7-12 from the field. She hauled in seven rebounds and recorded two assists with two steals.
 
Sophia Reese also scored 15 points as she shot 6-12 from the floor and 2-4 from three-point range. She recorded five rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block.
 
CK Gallegos Rodriguez had a phenomenal Senior Day performance. She scored a season-high 15 points, shooting 4-6 from the floor, 1-2 from three, and a perfect 5-5 at the free throw line. She accumulated eight rebounds, dished out a season-high five assists, and blocked two shots.
 
Kaia Peterson added 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while shooting 5-6 at the free throw line.
 
María Godoy Rodriguez put up eight points on 4-9 shooting. She grabbed seven rebounds, dished out two assists, and added two steals and one block.
 
Columba Rodriguez Real dropped a career-high eight points on her Senior Day in just 11 minutes of action. She shot 3-4 from the field and 2-3 from beyond the arc while recording two rebounds and one steal.
 
Emma Schipp recorded six points on 3-8 shooting, while hauling in a game-high ten rebounds. She added four assists, one steal, and one block.
 
The Fightin' Engineers will seek their third straight victory at Mt. St. Joseph on Wednesday, February 11, at 7 PM.
