TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Fightin' Engineers picked up their second shutout win over the past three games, as they knocked off the DePauw Tigers by a score of 2-0.
Both of Rose-Hulman's runs came in the seventh inning. The inning began with a single to center field from
Jackson Summers, and he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Michael Hines. The Fightin' Engineers were then able to load the bases as
Connor O'Connell reached on an error and
Jackson Harms was hit by a pitch. Faced with a full count,
TJ Pipkins hit a two RBI single through the right side, with Summers and O'Connell scoring on the play.
Pipkins would also make an impact on the defensive end, highlighted by an over-the-shoulder jumping catch at the top of the fifth inning. The Fightin' Engineers would turn a season-high three double plays, and they would also catch a runner stealing second at the top of the sixth.
Rose-Hulman's biggest defensive play, however, came in the seventh inning. With Cuinn Morrow on second, DePauw would hit a line drive double to deep left center field. Summers would field the hit, and he made a cutoff pass to
Noah Rasmussen, whose throw home connected with
Mason Rasmussen for a diving tag at the plate to keep the Tigers off the board.
The Fightin' Engineers' pitching core of
Gavin Drooger,
Andrew Noblitt,
Tyler Orr, and
Jackson Summers would allow a season-low two hits in the game. Drooger pitched three hitless innings, Noblitt recorded two strikeouts, Orr picked up his second win of the season, and Summers closed out the game with a save.
Rose-Hulman will return to HCAC action, as they face Hanover on the road, Sunday, April 5, at 4 PM.
