RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Fightin' Engineers dropped two road games against Earlham on Saturday, with final scores of 9-5 and 13-6. This drops the team to 8-12 overall and 1-5 in the HCAC.
In game one, Rose-Hulman fell behind early after the Quakers scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Earlham extended their lead to 6-0 with two more runs in the bottom of the second.
The Fightin' Engineers got on the board in the top of the third after
Jessica Newsom hit a two-run homer, bringing in a run by
Emily Hodges.
Earlham then added three more runs to rebuild their commanding lead to 9-2. Rose tried to rally back into the game with three runs in the sixth, but could not complete the comeback, falling to the Quakers in game one.
Aubrey Smith suffered the loss in the circle with 2.0 innings pitched and one strikeout. Newsom led the team at the plate, going 2-4 with one run and two RBIs.
The Quakers were able to continue their strong performance in the second game of day. The team jumped to a 4-0 lead after three innings.

Abigale Shearer brought in a run by Newsom.
Kayla Schnippel also scored in the fourth inning to make the score 4-2.
The Quakers scored nine runs across the fifth and sixth innings to pull away and sweep the Fightin' Engineers.
Audrey Theuring suffered the loss in the circle, pitching 3.0 innings with three strikeouts. Newsom was a standout at the plate, going 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Shearer was another productive hitter, going 3-4 with two RBIs.
The Rose-Hulman softball team will hit the road to take on Principia on Monday, April 13, at 3 PM and 5 PM.
