TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman hauled in their sixth straight victory as the Fightin' Engineers took down the Anderson Ravens by a score of 7-6.
The Fightin' Engineers put two runners on in the first inning, as
Jackson Summers reached on an error, while
Issei Takahashi was walked. Summers would score the opening run as
TJ Pipkins recorded an RBI single to left center field.
The lead wouldn't last long, as Jackson Kamp recorded an RBI triple to right-center field, tying the game in the top of the second. Kamp would then score on a fielder's decision, and the Ravens would close out the inning with an RBI single to take a 3-1 lead.
Camden Judson thrived on the mound, as he forced three-up, three-down innings in the top of the third, fourth, and fifth.
Pipkins and
Mason Rasmussen singled to lead off the bottom of the third, and both runners would advance into scoring position on a wild pitch.
Connor O'Connell would bring Pipkins home with an RBI groundout to cut the lead to one.
Jackson Harms followed that up by smacking a line drive double to deep right-center field to bring M. Rasmussen home to tie the game.
With two outs,
Noah Rasmussen hit a hard single to shortstop, where Anderson was forced to make an off-balance throw to first. The throw resulted in an error, which led to a Harms run, giving Rose-Hulman a 4-3 lead.
Takahashi and Pipkins would both be walked early in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Takahashi scored on an O'Connell line drive single to right field to extend the lead to 5-3.
Summers hit a double down the left side at the start of the sixth inning, and he advanced to third on a single from Takahashi. Summers would then score on a fielder's choice, with Pipkins recording the RBI.
Andrew Noblitt took the mound in the top of the seventh, and he closed out the inning by striking out consecutive batters who went down swinging. With a runner on second in the eighth,
Michael Hines, N. Rasmussen, and Erickson turned a double play to cap off the top half of the inning.
Takahashi singled to center field in the bottom of the eighth, and he advanced to third on a single to right field by O'Connell. Harms brought Takahashi home on an RBI single to shortstop, making it a 7-3 game.
The Ravens were able to load the bases in the top of the ninth, as they hit three singles to the outfield. With two outs, Ian Potts hit an RBI single to center field, leading to a Dylan Hogan run. Daniel Barreca followed that up with a two RBI single to left field, where Donnie Sinkhorn and Jackson Kamp's run cut the lead to 7-6.
With Rose-Hulman one out away from sweeping the series,
Tyler Orr forced a groundout to first, as the Fightin' Engineers achieved the 7-6 win.
The Fightin' Engineers will play Millikin in their final home game of the season, Wednesday, April 29, at 6:30 PM.
