LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Fightin' Engineers opened their series with Transylvania by achieving a 7-3 win on the road.
Mason Rasmussen reached first on an error in the second inning, and he advanced to second with two outs. He would score the opening run, as
Noah Rasmussen hit a line drive double down the first base line.
Liam Richardson concluded the bottom half of the inning by striking out back-to-back batters who went down swinging.
Jackson Summers reached first on a perfect bunt to third base in the top of the third. He would follow that up by stealing second, before advancing to third on a ground out.
TJ Pipkins brought him home on an RBI single to shortstop, where the Fightin' Engineers took a 2-0 lead.
The Pioneers would jump into the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Transylvania drew two walks and recorded two RBI singles, which led to three runs, putting the team ahead 3-2.
The Fightin' Engineers would enter the top of the ninth down by one run.
TJ Pipkins led off the inning by singling to right field, where he would proceed to steal second. Following M. Rasmussen drawing a four-pitch walk,
TJ Pipkins scored the game-tying run on a bunt from
Connor O'Connell.
Jackson Harms brought M. Rasmussen home to put Rose-Hulman ahead 4-3 as he hit a sacrifice fly to deep left field. N. Rasmussen followed that up with his second RBI double of the game, where O'Connell's run stretched the lead to two.
Matthew Furtado added an RBI double of his own down the third base line, and Summers hit an RBI single to left field, where N. Rasmussen and Furtado's runs extended the lead to 7-3.
Brad Nardi secured the win on the mound, as he closed out the game by forcing three consecutive outs.
Rose-Hulman will conclude the regular season against Transylvania tomorrow, Saturday, May 2, with a double header at 1 and 4 PM.
