TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman athletic department will be featuring multiple student-athletes across all of their varsity sports teams this summer in the Fightin' Engineers to Watch media campaign.
 
Men's soccer's Fightin' Engineer to Watch is midfielder Alex Gilmore as he enters his sophomore season.
 
Gilmore had a successful freshman season, where he appeared in all 19 games on the year, making eight starts. He scored the final goal to secure Rose-Hulman's 3-0 win over Principia as well as the final goal in the Fightin' Engineers' 5-0 beatdown against Franklin.
 
The Lewisburg, Pennsylvania native had a very positive experience during the 2025 soccer season. "I walked into a cohesive team environment with a very tight-knit group of teammates. I was able to form and strengthen friendships and relationships with my teammates, which allowed me to grow as a player and contribute on the field," said Gilmore. "My goal for next season is to continue to improve as a player on the field while using my experience to maintain a strong winning culture."
 
Gilmore would consistently see a bigger role with Rose-Hulman as the season progressed. He appeared in 77 minutes during Rose-Hulman's win against Franklin in early October where he recorded season-highs with six shots and three shots on goal. He would later appear in all 90 minutes of the Fightin' Engineers' games against Anderson in late October, as well as the HCAC Semifinals against Hanover.
 
Gilmore is pursuing a degree in computer science, and he is spending his summer interning at Teamworks in Noblesville, Indiana. Teamworks is a company that provides organizational and analytical website services to both pro and college sports teams. "It's been a great experience so far, and I look forward to gaining even more knowledge and industry practice throughout the summer," said Gilmore. "I have been able to apply the computer science skills I have learned in class to contribute to the analytical side of the product, while also helping with the soccer team's ID camps. It feels very rewarding to be involved in the program's future by showing up and helping out in any way I can."
 
As a Rose-Hulman student-athlete, Gilmore has gained a lot of discipline and time management skills from the intensive work that is required on the field and in the classroom. "I know I am getting a top-notch education while also being able to play the sport I love in a competitive environment. My experience as a student-athlete has been the best of both worlds, and I feel like it is preparing me for my future in all the right ways."
 
The Fightin' Engineers will open the season at home on Tuesday, September 1 at 7 PM as they match up with the Greenville Panthers.
