TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Fightin' Engineers kicked off the 2026 season in incredible fashion as they took down the Greenville Panthers by a score of 4-0.
It only took ten minutes for Rose-Hulman to score their opening goal of the game. Sophomore
Pace Morel beat his defender off the dribble on the right side, and he fired a pass to junior
Ryan Shapiro who tapped in Rose's opening goal.
The Fightin' Engineers would be awarded their second corner kick of the game in the 18th minute. Senior
Oliver Fila's lob connected with graduate student
Wil Bell, who headed his shot into the back of the net, putting Rose-Hulman up 2-0.
The Fightin' Engineers would also thrive on the defensive end, with sophomore
Justin Burns catching a save in the 20th minute. He would add his second save nine minutes later, as he caught a deep shot that was aimed at the top of the goal.
Morel nearly extended Rose-Hulman's lead early in the second half, as his 51st-minute shot from inside the box was deflected away. Sophomore
Benjamin Murphy would add a shot on goal one minute later, and Fila's 56th minute strike on target would also be saved by keeper Dominick Messer.
Rose-Hulman found themselves on the attack in the 63rd minute, with senior
Chase Kedzior dribbling down the midfield. He made a cross to Shapiro on the right side, and Shapiro took multiple dribbles, forcing the goalie to slide and miss as he fired his second goal of the game into the back of the net.
The Fightin' Engineers would secure their win by a score of 4-0, as a Greenville miscommunication resulted in an own goal in the 67th minute.
RHIT will look to continue their dominance on the road as they face the Spalding Golden Eagles on Friday, September 4 at 7:45 PM.
