Rose-Hulman Squashes Spalding; Improves to 2-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Fightin' Engineers recorded their second consecutive shutout to start the season, taking down the Spalding Golden Eagles by a score of 2-0.

Freshman Benjamin Murphy recorded the opening shot of the game in the 15th minute, which was saved down the right side. Just one minute later, junior Ryan Shapiro scored the opening goal to give RHIT the lead. He has now scored three goals in just two games, which is tied for the most in the HCAC.

Neither team would record a shot on goal for the rest of the half, as Rose-Hulman concluded the period with a 1-0 lead.

The Fightin' Engineers were awarded a 55th-minute corner kick, and they would nearly extend their lead with graduate student Wil Bell's shot being saved. Senior Oliver Fila and Murphy added shots on goal in the 73rd and 75th minutes, which were both saved by Spalding keeper Arthur Rudolphi.

After recording an assist in the season opener, sophomore Pace Morel added another assist on a goal from Fila in the 84th minute. This would secure the 2-0 victory for the Fightin' Engineers, who did not allow a single shot on goal.

Rose-Hulman will stay in Louisville, Ky., for a neutral-site match against Centre College. The game will kick off on Sunday, September 6 at 5 PM.
