LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team started the season with a road win over Spalding University with a final score of 3-1 and set scores of 25-15, 22-25, 25-16, and 25-14.
The team had three players reach double figures in kills, led by
Keira Ohse, totaling 16.
Emma Blanton had a standout performance, recording a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs in the match.
Greta Carlson also reached double figures in kills with 10.
Defensively, Rose was led by
Kennedy Otwell with 15 digs.
Aurora Schmidt also made an impact on defense with 10 digs on the night.
The Fightin' Engineers set the tone early, jumping to a 6-1 lead in the first set. The team closed out the first set on an 8-3 run to defeat the Golden Eagles 25-15.
Spalding bounced back in set number two to hold off the Fightin' Engineers late comeback attempt and even the match at 1-1 with a score of 25-22.
Rose-Hulman dominated in the final two sets with scores of 25-16 and 25-14 to defeat the Golden Eagles and start their 2026 season at 1-0.
The Fightin' Engineers will return to action on the road in the Rosalie Resch Invitational hosted by the University of Chicago this weekend. The team will face UChicago on Friday, September 4, at 6 PM CT to start the weekend. Then Rose will battle Concordia Wisconsin and Edgewood on Saturday, September 5, at 11 AM CT and 4 PM CT.
