DECATUR, Ill. – The Fightin' Engineers tied the Millikin Big Blue in a high-scoring 3-3 stalemate.
It took only three minutes for junior
Ryan Shapiro to put Rose-Hulman on the board, as he recorded his HCAC-leading fifth goal of the season.
Rose-Hulman recorded a team save in the 8th minute, and sophomore
Justin Burns hauled in his first save down the right side in the 22nd minute. He would keep the Big Blue off the board in the first half, recording a 45th-minute save, keeping Rose-Hulman in a 1-0 lead.
Millikin would tie the game three minutes into the second half, with Bryce Davis scoring the team's opening goal.
Senior
Oliver Fila nearly put Rose-Hulman ahead two minutes later where his shot on target off a corner kick was saved. He would not be denied in his 60th-minute shot on his goal as his shot found the back of the net for his third goal of the season. Sophomore
Pace Morel and freshman
Andrew Kasbeer-Betty assisted on the play, with Kasbeer-Betty picking up the first assist of his career.
The Big Blue answered with a goal of their own off a corner kick four minutes later. Kyle Grasse's pass connected with Javan Grooms, whose goal tied the game at 2-2.
Graduate Student
Chase Stohlmann would put the Fightin' Engineers back in the lead with his first goal with Rose-Hulman in the 70th-minute. Morel and freshman
Logan Humphries each assisted on the play, and Humphries would also record his first career assist. Morel finished the game with two assists, and he now leads the HCAC with four assists this season.
The back-and-forth battle continued as Davis scored his second goal for Millikin in the 71st minute, which tied the game at 3-3.
Burns added another save two minutes later with a save down the right side. Millikin had one last chance to take the lead in the 89th minute, but Kyle Grasse's shot down the middle would be saved by Burns as the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Rose-Hulman will stay on the road as they take on the DePauw Tigers on Wednesday, September 16 at 7 PM.
