MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Rose-Hulman women's volleyball team suffered two losses on Saturday to wrap up the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational. The team fell to Wisconsin-Platteville and Millikin in three-set matches.
Greta Carlson led the team in the first match of the day against Wisconsin-Platteville. Carlson totaled 15 kills in the contest.
Kennedy Otwell was the defensive standout with 15 digs.
Julia Irmen led the team in assists with 19.
The Pioneers took the first two sets with scores of 25-14 and 25-18. Rose-Hulman put up a fight in the third set. After trailing 24-16, the Fightin' Engineers put together a 5-0 run to decrease the deficit to 24-21.
The Pioneers were able to finish strong and pull out the win over the Fightin' Engineers with a score of 25-21 in the final set.
In the second match, Rose-Hulman battled Millikin in a competitive match.
The Fightin' Engineers had three players reach double figures in kills. Carlson led the team with 13 kills. She was followed by
Keira Ohse and
Kaia Schroeder with 12 and 10 kills each.
Otwell was the defensive standout with 15 digs, and Irmen had an exceptional performance with 39 assists.
The team fell behind after the first set with a score of 25-22.
Rose looked to even the match in the second set. After trailing 20-18, the Fightin' Engineers put together a 5-0 run to take the lead 22-20. Millikin answered with a 6-2 run to finish the set and take the 2-0 advantage over Rose-Hulman.
The team fought hard in the third set, but came up short to the Big Blue with a score of 25-19.
Rose-Hulman will look to bounce back at the Ohio Wesleyan Tournament, facing Ohio Wesleyan on Friday, September 18, at 5 PM.
