TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman thrived in their season opener against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, as the team achieved a 5-0 victory at home.
Rose-Hulman nearly got on the board seven minutes into the game as junior
Sydnee Schuler recorded a shot on goal that was saved by Cileen Saif. Junior
Iliana Hernandez would add consecutive shots on goal in the 13th minute, which would also be deflected away.
Freshman
Isabel Perron nearly recorded the first goal of her career in the 43rd minute as she fired a shot down the middle that was caught by the keeper. The half would conclude with both teams tied at 0-0, with the Fightin' Engineers outshooting the Pomeroys 10-1.

Madison Fleury made a downfield pass to senior
Meagan Hall. Hall took a few dribbles, and kicked a shot past the keeper, as Rose-Hulman broke through with their first goal of the game.
The Fightin' Engineers would nearly score their second goal of the game in the 65th minute, as sophomore
Makayla Doherty's shot from outside the box sailed past the keeper, but just deflected off the top left corner of the goal.
In the 72nd minute, senior
Emma Johns received a pass on the left side from Fleury. She dribbled into the box, and her shot rolled in between the keeper's legs, putting RHIT up 2-0.
Following the goal, Rose-Hulman caught fire as junior
Lena Darini headed in a 74th minute goal off a lob pass from freshman
Delaney Untermeyer. Darini's dominance continued as she scored her second goal of the game, three minutes later as she fired a shot in from the right side on an assist from Johns and Fleury.
The Fightin' Engineers were awarded a throw in deep in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods territory in the 79th minute. Johns' throw bounced off the ground, and it connected with freshman
Delaney Untermeyer. Untermeyer would fire her first touch into the back of the night, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career, to secure the 5-0 victory for Rose-Hulman.
Lena Darini scored a team-high two goals while attempting four shots which were all on target.
Emma Johns recorded three goal contributions, as she scored one goal while adding two assists.
In her first collegiate appearance,
Madison Fleury recorded a team-high three assists.
The Fightin' Engineers dominated on both ends of the field, attempting 16 shots on goal, while their defense allowed just one shot on goal.
Rose-Hulman will look to improve to 2-0 as they journey to Decatur, Ill. to take on Millikin. The match will be held on Saturday, September 5 at 8 PM ET, 7 PM CT.
