DECATUR, Ill. – Rose-Hulman improved to 2-0 as they took down the Millikin Big Blue by a score of 2-1 on the road.
The Fightin' Engineers were awarded their first corner kick of the game in the 14th minute, which they were able to take advantage of. Junior
Lena Darini scored the game's opening goal, off assists from senior
Vianey Garcia and junior
Sydnee Schuler. Darini has now scored three goals in two games this season, which is tied for the most in the HCAC.
Less than a minute after Rose-Hulman's goal, sophomore
Alicia Gonzalez made her first save of the game on a shot to the left side. During the 21st-minute, the Big Blue were able to find the back of the net, tying the game on a goal from Addison Weed.
The game would only remain tied for five minutes, as freshman
Madison Fleury scored her first career goal in the 26th minute. Gonzalez would later add another save off a corner kick to help Rose-Hulman preserve their 2-1 lead at the half.
Senior
Ally Smith nearly added to Rose-Hulman's lead in the 59th minute, where her shot down the middle was saved by Jessica Bearley.
Gonzalez recorded her third and final save of the game in the 65th minute, and the Fightin' Engineers defense would allow just two off target shots for the remainder of the game to secure the 2-1 victory.
The Fightin' Engineers will stay in Illinois as they match up with the Greenville Panthers on Tuesday, September 8 at 8 PM ET (7 PM CT).
