TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Fightin' Engineers recorded their second consecutive shutout victory, taking down the DePauw Tigers 2-0.
Just five minutes into the match,
Sydnee Schuler received a pass on the right side, where she dribbled downfield past her defender. She made a perfect pass right towards the goal, which rolled past the keeper, and connected with
Emma Johns who tapped in the opening goal.
Johns has now scored two goals on the season while Schuler has recorded two assists.
Just two minutes later, the Tigers were awarded a free kick, but they were denied on a diving save from
Alicia Gonzalez. She would add another save in the 18th minute, as she recorded another diving save on a shot inside the box.
Johns nearly scored her second goal of the game in the 24th minute, as her lob towards the top right corner of the goal was deflected away.
The Fightin' Engineers would conclude the half with a 1-0 lead, where they outshot DePauw 6-4.
After scoring their opening goal just five minutes into the first half, it would only take 28 seconds for Rose-Hulman to score again in the second half. With Rose-Hulman on the attack,
Delaney Untermeyer passed towards
Jenna Dudley. Dudley fielded the pass, took one dribble, and fired a strike into the back of the net to extend Rose-Hulman's lead to two.
This would be the first goal of Dudley's career, with Untermeyer dishing out her second assist of the season.
Gonzalez made her first save of the second half in the 58th minute, with a one-handed jumping deflection in the top left corner of the goal. She secured her fifth and final save in the 81st minute, to cap off the 2-0 victory for the Fightin' Engineers.
Rose-Hulman has had a terrific start to the season as their record stands at 5-1. They will look to take that success into conference play as they face Berea on Saturday, September 26 at 1 PM.
