TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman women's volleyball team battled DePauw on Wednesday night in their home opener. The Fightin' Engineers fell short to the Tigers with a final score of 3-1, with set scores of 12-25, 25-22, 17-25, and 20-25. This drops the team to 2-9 overall this season.
Keira Ohse was the standout for the Fightin' Engineers, recording a team-high 15 kills on the night.
Emma Blanton was another difference maker, recording a double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs.
Julia Irmen had another exceptional performance with 39 assists in the match. The team was led defensively by
Kennedy Otwell with 25 digs and
Shae Clements with 20 digs.
After falling in the first set, 25-12, Rose-Hulman answered with a strong performance in the second set. The Fightin' Engineers went on a tear, starting the set with a 9-2 run. DePauw battled back to keep it a close contest. With Rose-Hulman ahead 18-17, the Fightin' Engineers scored three straight points that included a kill by Clements and a service ace by Blanton to make the score 21-17.
Rose-Hulman finished out the first set with a victory, 25-22, after a service error and an attack error by the Tigers to even the match at 1-1.
DePauw went on to defeat the Fightin' Engineers in the final two sets, 25-17 and 25-20, to claim the win in the match, 3-1.
Rose-Hulman volleyball will return to action this weekend in their Cancer Research Tri-Match on Saturday, September 26, at 11 AM and 3 PM. The team will face Illinois Tech at 11 AM and then battle Trine at 3 PM.
